Sorry its been a while since I’ve really posted anything significant. It’s been almost 2 weeks, and I’m still enjoying Kolkata and learning my way around. I’ve been left at home with Maa, Baba, and Sujata a few times this week while Indra goes to meetings for work. It’s not as bad as I had imagined, Maa makes sure I’m doing okay and that I’ve got what I need. I prefer to keep to myself, and always have, always when I lived on my own, so I spend the majority of my time online browsing the net, or reading books. Indra has taken me to work with him a few times, to Barasat, a college where he is setting up some servers and things. That’s always an adventure to be sure. =D

Yes, things have been tough, we’re still making adjustments and learning to live with the other, because neither of us have had to live with someone for quite sometime (besides the family & roommates).

We got a new bed yesterday. Its wrought iron and beautiful. Then we went to a store called Big Bazaar, reminds me a lot of Big Lots, and got some curtains that are blue, orange, and yellow and then some sheets which are different shades of orang, with yellow, pink and white. Its very pretty.

Everyone keeps asking me how I like India and *how* Indra really is. Well…India, its diverse, what can I say? Yes, its dirty and different. But the life here is so much simpler, there is no rush to get anything done (ok, somewhat =P) and so carefree, and the food, oh the food!!! It’s completely different than anything I am used to, but I love it too!! It’s just sooooooooo yummy. Indra…well…he’s amazing, he takes such good care of me and makes sure that I have everything I need. =D We get along great, so don’t worry!!

Take care, more adventures coming up soon…especially Friday, I’m going to see my all time favorite band, LIVE!!! Cassini’s Division I can’t wait!!!

India…the adventures thus far

Filed under: India, crazy crap, every day life, funny stuff, personal — steph @ 2:30 am

On the 5th, having not slept the night before, I arrived at the airport at around 7 am for a 845am only to find out that my flight had been delayed. At first it was until 1050am, and then it was 1030am, which was then rescheduled until 910am. Finally I got on the plane. I flew to New Jersey, where I met up with a friend Darshan Shah, whom I had never met before, but had talked to on the phone and online. It was fun :) He bought me a slice of pizza and a drink. Then I got on the flight to Delhi. That flight was the longest flight of my entire life. 14.5 hours. :(   I slept for a bit, but not much. I arrived in Delhi about 30-45 minutes ahead of schedule. I was a bit confused, but due to help from Shalika I managed. I went through immigration where I got my visa stamped. I proceeded to collect my bags and went through customs. I found Indra and we proceeded to the taxi that was waiting. We arrived at the place we were staying to find out that the dining hall was closed. So out we went, with me in my high heels (in the end, stupid of me i know). We walked a bit and found a McDonalds. At some point or another, I twisted my ankle.

Thursday night we went out for dinner with Kishore Bhargava, his wife Jyoti and their son Kabir. They gave us a custom made waterbottle sling made to order in Goa.  :)  We went for dinner and it was my first experience of real Indian food in India. Then we went to the Bengali Market (I think?) for Kesar Kulfi. It was fun and nice to meet them.

We spent 3 days in Delhi and then on the 9th, we took Howrah Rajdhani Express and arrived home around 1120am. Where I met the rest of the family and friends. Yeah!

This has been an amazing journey. Yes, I’m somewhat tired, but it’s good to finally be with Indra. Leaving the US was hard, but being without Indra was harder. It’s all a bit overwhelming still, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. Indra’s family is amazing. :)

*sigh* one tough day

Filed under: crazy crap, every day life, my family, our girls, personal — steph @ 6:53 pm

Today was the last day I will see my daughters for god knows how long. The last 2 hours went by so fast. I was fighting back the tears the last 15 minutes with Jovie, and when cuddling with Myriam, I started to cry, and she told me ’stop crying, its okay.’ This has got to be the hardest thing I *have* ever done. It was even harder than walking away from Jeremy and the girls the first time.

So…good news is I have my girls from 8am to 7pm tomorrow, the bad news is…it’s 2am, and I’m still awake!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well…thats what caffeine is for, and perhaps we’ll hit the pool and the hot tub, if not the water park and the regular park. Tomorrow, erm…I mean later today will be fun! Look for photos on facebook, orkut, and flickr!! :)

woah!!!!

OMG!!! Where has the time gone?!?!?! Last I knew it was January and I had just purchased my tickets for India for a 2 1/2 week trip. Then it was February, and I applied for my tourist visa, and within a week had it back in my hand. Back then I was freaking out thinking how long it was before I could be in India with Indra and be completely and utterly happy for 2 1/2 weeks. Then recently, things have been going screwy, saving not going as planned because of things popping up left from the ex-husband, and my health issues flaring. My knees are flaring up a lot (I have patelofemoral syndrome, basically the cartillage under my knee caps is slowly softening and I think disintigrating or something, and so it causes the bones to grind against each other, and is often painful when flare ups occur) because of my new job. Also, because I’m only part time and I have only been there for about 3 months, I am not yet eligible for health care. Thus, without health insurance its *way* too expensive for me to pay to see the Orthopaedic surgeon needed for my knees, thus another contributing factor. Then the decision was made to make this a permanent transitition. So come May 5th, I am moving to Kolkata, India. YEAH!! But now, here it is April 8th, and I don’t know where all the time has gone, and I am in amazement that in just under a month, I will be starting a new adventure and a new life. With a new family (and some old ones too), and new friends, new culture, new country, lots of new stuff. I’m scared, to be honest, I’m scared mostly of the cultural shock. It’s going to be a big adjustment for me. But I know it will be okay because I have family and good friends behind me! And somewhere amidst all this, the wedding will occur. W-O-W! Talk about stressful. I can’t wait. Delhi here I come!!!

Btw, anybody who lives closer to Delhi than Kolkata, and wants to meet up, please let me know, and get me your number, or get with Indra and we’ll arrange it! =D
